Close to Home began as a landscape series during lockdown. The photographs do not depict specific identifiable places but offer a very intimate view of places very close to my home in rural mid-Suffolk, many just a stone's throw from my back gate and some a little further afield. I have an intuitive interest in personifying nature and transposing my thoughts and emotions onto each subject, particularly the tiny and unadmired plant life by marrying light and the environment to express my feelings of joy and sometimes sorrow. Although it was more by accident than design I have also been photographing the people closest to me, myself included, and some people that for a time pass through. Portraiture happens upon me in the moment or I will ask people to sit for me. I try to express some 'thing' that I see in nature and in people, that I know for that shared moment is a reflection of both of us.
